About West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire is a county in the region of Yorkshire and the Humber in England. It is inhabited by around 2,227,400 people based on the 2014 population. It became a metropolitan county in 1974 and is composed of five districts. West Yorkshire used to depend on textile industry, but it declined in the 20th century. It used to manufacture cloth, but the adjoining cities of Leeds and Bradford are being developed to attract more investors and tourists with the natural and man-made resources they both have.

West Yorkshire enjoys an Oceanic climate, with cool months and snow during winter. It is a strategic area in the Yorkshire region because major motorways pass through it, including M1, M62 and A1 (M). It has a range of interesting places fit for a diverse group of tourists. Historic tours will take you to some of the county’s best museums, old houses and beautiful castles.

Outdoor and nature enthusiasts will surely enjoy their kind of activities brought by West Yorkshire’s bountiful natural environment. They can visit Emley Moor, UK’s tallest self-supporting facility, or be captivated by the charm of the Harewood Estate. Country parks are great for families and couples, while newer attractions are offered by modern museums and amusement parks. The county offers something for everyone, and it’s all worth checking out yourself.
