About Somerset

Somerset is a rural county located in South West England. It is famed for its majestic rolling hills and rich agricultural wealth. Aside from tourism, farming is a major industry in the county and is a good source of livelihood for the locals.

When taking a tour of Somerset, it is very important that tourists take some time to admire the Blackdown Hills, Quantock Hills, or the Mendip Hills. A laidback respite at Exmoor National Park, where native Exmoor ponies can be spotted, is also ideal.

Somerset visitors would also love to bring home souvenirs from their trip to this county east of River Severn. Some of the products abundant to the place include wool and Cheddar cheese that are harvested from its many sheep and cattle farms and strong cider products from its numerous apple orchards. Local crafts, like baskets made of willow, are also available. Although agriculture is not as lively as it used to be, products reminiscent of once the county’s largest income drawer can be had in various areas.

Somerset is composed of two cities and 30 towns, each has its own allure. Some have that specific urban charm, others are lined with unique geographical features, and the rest maintains a southerly lifestyle featuring cultural traditions of art and music, which are truly enjoyable to explore.

Must Visit:

The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts – One of the biggest happenings in the county, specifically in Pilton, which is flocked by close to 200,000 tourists each year. The festival features music and culture, with world-famous entertainers in attendance.

Cheddar Caves & Gorge – Located in North Somerset, this attraction is notable for its locally produced cheese, with the only remaining cheese maker calling Cheddar village home. There are also show caves hosted for tourists in the Gorge.
