About Merseyside

The metropolitan county of Merseyside is part of the North West region of England. It has a small population of 1.38 million. Established in 1974, Merseyside has five districts, namely Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St. Helens and Wirral. It has many other charming towns and villages, most of which are rural communities.

Historically, the county’s growth and development has much to do with its docks. Titanic was built in shipyards found in Liverpool. The city enjoys growing investments in recent years, and tourism has a lot to do with it. Merseyside also boasts two of England’s largest football clubs, the biggest band and the biggest Anglican cathedral in the world. Merseyside is the birthplace of famous people, from celebrities to sports heroes. The Beatles also started their first performances at The Cavern Club, which was demolished in 1970 but was later rebuilt. Today, it is open for the public to see some performances from jazz bands.

Each five boroughs of Merseyside have a number of attractions to offer tourists. Liverpool is home to the World Museum, The Beatles Story Museum at the Albert Dock, Mersey Tunnels and more. Wirral houses Hamilton Square, Birkenhead Park and other destinations worth exploring. Visiting families can go to kid-friendly destinations like theme parks and zoos. Discover the rich culture and colorful history of Merseyside via the castles, cathedrals, museums and numerous heritage sites found around the county.
