Chorley is a major market town in Lancashire, Northwest England. It became a major market town because it is located in the centre of four other towns. The flattened, fruit-filled pastry cake known as the Chorley cake originated from this town.

Astley Hall, a country house in Chorley, is considered by the locals as the town’s gem. The building is a particular must-see because of its 16th and 17th century architecture design and an impressive display of very expensive glass to the front only goes to show just how wealthy the owners were at the time. The extensive parkland surrounding the hall boasts an admirable fountain in the lake and a beautiful walled garden which was recently renovated in order to make it much more accessible to the public. The Chorley Remembers Experience, a 500 sq. ft. exhibition and display space located within the coach house at Astley Hall is an exhibition which gives emphasis on Chorley’s military history and involvement over the years.

If you are into sight-seeing and looking for a relaxing day out with your friends or family, the Yarrow Valley Country Park provides a perfect place for you. Many walkers enjoy its well-maintained footpaths. The play area was built for the kids to enjoy, while the adults enjoy the tranquil ambience of the lake, waterfalls and wildlife, for free. You can also find a nice café within the area that offers good and reasonably priced food and drinks.

The Chorley Council is, without a doubt, doing an amazing job in promoting the town’s tourism. Their efforts to maintain the beauty of Chorley’s surrounding parklands and historic houses has been pretty much successful making it a worthwhile place for a weekend or holiday getaway.
