About Southampton Airport

Southampton Airport is located in Eastleigh, Hampshire. It’s an international airport that serves the Southampton area. It used to be owned by the Heathrow Airport Holdings and is now owned and operated by AGS Airports, which is the same operator for Glasgow and Aberdeen Airports. It’s considered as the 18th when it comes to the busiest airports in United Kingdom. It served 1,831,732 in the year 2014, which was higher than the number of passengers for the previous year. Scheduled flights to and from Southampton are available that are served by Volotea, VLM Airlines, Flybe, Eastern Airways, Blue Islands, and Austrian Airlines.

The area where the airport is now located was used in 1910 for the take-off and landing of the Edwin Rowland Moon’s monoplane. Moon was one of the pioneer pilots of that time. The said location also served as a camp for the refugees. This is also where the Supermarine Spitfire had its first test flight on March 5, 1936. Five restored Spitfires flew at the airport in 2006 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the first test flight. There were suggestions from the local council to have the airport renamed to R. J. Mitchell, although it was not approved by the owner. Mitchell was the designer of Spitfires. The location of the airport is near motorway so travel with private vehicles wouldn’t be difficult. Buses and trains are also available for land transportation. There are also taxis that can be booked.

Southampton Airport offers three options when it comes to parking. They are Long Stay, Short Stay and Priority Parking. You may book these parking options in advance. The Priority Parking is the best option if you wish to be nearest to the terminal, and ensure that your parking space is covered.

WiFi is free in the airport for 4 hours. The next hours come with a fee, which ranges from £3 for one hour to £130 for one year.
