About Belfast Airport

Belfast International Airport is located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is one of the major airports serving the country. It is usually referred to as the Aldergrove Airport. The airport used to serve the Royal air Force as well, but it was closed in 2008. In 2014, it served almost 4 million passengers, with figures close to its 2013 count. This airport is the busiest in Northern Ireland, and only 2nd to Dublin Airport in terms of passengers served in the entire Ireland.

ADC and HAS owns the airport and is also the same company running airports in various parts of Europe and America, including Stockholm Skavsta, Mariscal Sucre International Airport and Juan Santamaria International Airport. It was in 2008 when the airport received the most number of passengers at 5.3 million. Since then, it has remained static and somehow dropped. Nevertheless, it has somehow recovered in recent years, but still not enough to surpass the 2008 record. Spain and the Netherlands have the most number of passengers carried to and from Belfast Airport.

Traveling by road is the most convenient way heading to the airport as it takes the M2 motorway. The airport also has a lot of car parks available. However, passengers can also take buses. A 24-hour bus express service caters to passenger from the airport to the city centre. If you opt to take a train, the nearest station is still 10 km away. However, there is a bus link from the said station to the airport.

Belfast International Airport is the most technologically advanced airport in the island of Ireland. It is the only airport that has cross runway capability. It means that during adverse weather conditions, it can still accommodate aircrafts. The runways are at 2780 metres and 1951 metres respectively.
