Sunbury-on-Thames or, more simply known as Sunbury, is a lovely suburban town located in Surrey. It is divided into two sections: the Lower Sunbury where you can find the town’s most famous parks and pubs, and the Sunbury Common which showcases an overwhelming parade of famous establishments, such as Marks and Spencer, Boots, Laura Ashley, etc.
Sunbury is an ideal place to visit if you are into history and nature as it is home to many historic landmarks such as the famous Hawke House. The Hawke House, which dates back to 1703, is the main home of Admiral Lord Hawke. He is famous for directing the blockade of Rochefort and Brest in 1757 and 1758, respectively. Around the residence you can find Georgian buildings highlighted by small pretty gardens to the front and back. It was remodelled in the 19th century and now, you can see private detached homes with beautiful gardens located behind and across the road which belongs to the house.
Horse racing fans, on the other hand, can experience a great day out at the Kempton Park Racecourse. Kempton Park has its own railway station making it very accessible for racegoers. Some of its notable races are King George VI Chase, Racing Plus Chase and Sirenia Stakes. Aside from racing facilities, you can also find an antiques market which opens every second and last Tuesday of the month. The site also holds seasonal wedding fairs and reception areas.
Surrounding Sunbury are other equally beautiful suburban towns such as Feltham, Hampton, Ashford and Walton on Thames. Going in, out and around the town is made easier by its surrounding roads and railways.
