Knotty Ash is a small district in Liverpool, Merseyside in the North West region of England. It was resided by some 13,200 people as of 2001 Census. Lying between Liverpool and Hyton, the area was called such because of a knotted Ash tree found near a public house. It was made popular in the 60s by Ken Dodd, a resident and stand-up comedian who set the fictitious place Diddyland in Knotty Ash. He used to refer the area as having the highest sunshine rate and the home of dwarfish characters the Diddy Men in the BBC program Ken Dodd and the Diddymen.

Knotty Ash has two schools, one of which is a primary school, the Knotty Ash CP. The other is a special needs secondary school named Clifford Holroyde. Main mode of public transport for locals and tourists is bus 10, which takes the Liverpool-Prescot route. Knotty Ash has a railways system, which is a part of the National Cycle Network.

Despite being suburb, Knotty Ash is a quiet little area with charming neighborhoods. It has pubs, numerous restaurants and theatres. Do not be surprised to find plenty of attractions in the district. Nature lovers can wander or enjoy outdoor activities in the lakes, park and gardens and nature reserves located in Knotty Ash. Families can visit one of the theme parks, aquariums or zoos. Art and culture enthusiasts can visit museums and art galleries, while sports aficionados can enjoy their kind of game at the stadiums, carting facility or golf course.

Springfield Park – The park features a tennis court, football pitches, children’s playground and an obelisk that remembers the death of Lord nelson. It was originally the grounds of the Springfield House, a wealthy property in the area.

The Bill Shankly Recreation Ground – This playing field is a common venue for football and other sports played in the area.
