About Orlando Airport

The Orlando International Airport is located 6 miles Southeast of Orlando, Florida. It is the state’s 2nd busiest airport. Being an international airport, it is the 13th busiest in the entire United States in terms of passenger traffic. Southwest Airlines carried the most passengers to this airport. However, other airlines also dominate the airport traffic, including Frontier airlines, and Jetblue Airways. Florida is a major international gateway and so it has a huge amount of traffic in a year. There are other airports serving Florida due to the number of passengers being served.

This airport has a huge main terminal building which is divided into two terminals. Both terminals have security checkpoints before passengers are allowed to go inside. It also has a lot of choices when it comes to shopping centers, restaurants and VIP lounges. The airport also features huge waiting areas for passengers. It also has a restaurant located strategically to overlook the airport facilities as well as the runway.

From the last quarter of 2014 to the second quarter of 2015, the airport has already served over 40 million international passengers, with Southwest Airlines as the leading local carrier and Virgin Atlantic Airways as the top international carrier. When it comes to transportation options, the most popular ones are taxis and buses. However, car rental choices are also available.

Airsides 1and 3 of the terminals have undergone major renovations as they have been in use since the 1980’s. The new design looks more modern as it incorporates more modern architecture. New mechanical and electrical systems were also in place.

Most airports have hotels located at close proximity. However, Orlando Airport has an on-site hotel within the terminal’s main structure. The Hyatt Regency Hotel is located on the East Atrium side of the terminal. For passengers who have to reschedule their flights, it is very convenient as they don’t have to move out of the airport anymore.
